Most people assume that using the Lansky Sharpening System is complicated. What they don’t know is that once you learn the basics you can easily use it without hassle. To teach you, here are the simple steps in using the Lansky sharpening system.


 
Step 1. Place the knife in the holder. A T-shaped bar made of metal and full of holes is used to hold the knife. It is also known as clamp. Now, how does it work? Unfasten the clamp and place the knife in between the two holders. This is the first step in using the Lansky sharpening system. Bind the clamp using a screw. You might want to use a screwdriver to make the task easier. Next, to make sure that the knife is secure and won’t fall down easily, you have to fasten the red thumbscrew by hand using your fingers.
 
Step 2. Assemble the sharpener. We call that sharpener, hone. The hone is used in rubbing the blade’s edge. First, you connect the hone and guide rod. See to it that the guide rod is in line too.  Thus, it is very important that you make it straight by putting it on a smooth façade. If after doing this process, the guide rod is still bent, you try to use some of your force to make it straight. Below are the different sharpening angles. This is part of the Lansky sharpening system. You will use these angles in moving the guide rod.

 

  • 30 degrees – common types of knife that needs this sharpening angle are rope knife, utility knife, and vegetable knife. These heavy duty knives can only be sharpened at 30 degrees.
  • 25 degrees – Knives under this category are chef knives, pocket knives, and hunting knives. Most common knives are being sharpened at 25 degrees.
  • 20 degrees – Skinning knives and meat carving knives are under this angle section.
  • 17 degrees – Filet knives are the best examples that use this angle.

 

Step 3. Start sharpening your knife. You are now down to the last step on how Lansky sharpening system works. Place the guide rod in the desired angle hole. Next, rub it using the hone; use the guide rod as the key in determining what angle you will apply in sharpening.
